FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (31 March 2023, Transgender Day of Visibility)—Today, The International LGBTQ+ Travel Association and IGLTA Foundation celebrate transgender and gender-expansive people, and their contributions to society that make our world better and brighter. Today is also a day to recognize and raise awareness of the discrimination they continue to face worldwide.
Last year, The IGLTA Foundation formed the Transgender Advisory Group to better support the ‘T’ in LGBTQ+. This volunteer group works to help develop training and resources to elevate the lives of transgender people. Read more here about the members of our group and the incredible work they do year-round.
“We’re seeing anti-LGBTQ+ laws on the rise all around the world, with many of them especially harmful to our gender-diverse community. It’s so important for our global network to stand up and speak out about these attacks against members of our community,” said IGLTA CEO/President John Tanzella. “That’s exactly why our Foundation has formed a global advisory group to improve resources for gender-diverse travelers and the tourism industry.”
Here are a few things you can do as a business to show your support:
• Build support systems for trans and nonbinary employees.
• Implement inclusive hiring practices for gender-diverse candidates, including pay equity.
• Speak out against transphobia in the workplace and in your communities.
• Train your teams and staff on LGBTQ+ diversity and inclusive practices.
