Full Guide Available Here
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, United States (19 March 2025) – The IGLTA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the International LGBTQ+ Travel Association (IGLTA), today released its Comprehensive Guide for LGBTQ+ Inclusive Communication in Tourism. This resource, created through a partnership with Miles Partnership in collaboration with HospitableMe, is designed to help travel professionals use language as a tool to better support LGBTQ+ travelers.
“Inclusivity starts with communication, and the words we use matter. They play a powerful role in making people feel seen and valued,” said John Tanzella (he/him), IGLTA President/CEO. “While language is complex and constantly evolving, we hope this guide serves as a starting point for companies to build a deeper understanding, ensuring that LGBTQ+ travelers experience respect and belonging at every touchpoint.”
The guide covers essential topics, including:
- Inclusive Language & Guest Interactions – Using gender-inclusive greetings, adapting communication to better connect with guests, and ensuring booking processes accommodate all identities.
- Staff Training & Customer Service – Educating teams on using inclusive language confidently and handling missteps professionally.
- Authentic Marketing & Representation – Showcasing diverse LGBTQ+ travelers and highlighting inclusive policies.
- Welcoming Spaces & Policies – Talking about gender-neutral restrooms, personalized amenities, and ensuring policies reflect inclusivity.
- Commitment to Continuous Improvement – Using guest feedback to refine communication strategies and evolve with community needs.
The Comprehensive Guide for LGBTQ+ Inclusive Communication in Tourism is available now as a free resource. For more information or to access the guide, visit https://www.iglta.org/foundation/download-comprehensive-guide/.
