PALM SPRINGS, CA, United States (23 October 2025) — The IGLTA Foundation’s Gender Diverse Travel Advisory Group (GTAG) has published the Trans & Gender Diverse Travel Guide: A Roadmap for Safe and Enjoyable Travel, in collaboration with IGLTA and made possible through the generous support of AWAY and the Arcus Foundation. The guide was first presented during the 2025 IGLTA Global Convention in Palm Springs, the association’s premier educational and networking event.

Trans and gender diverse travelers have always been part of the global travel community, yet they continue to face distinct safety challenges and barriers. As visibility increases worldwide, this guide provides essential tools to help travelers plan and explore the world with more confidence and peace of mind.

Practical tips from the guide include:

  • Researching local laws, customs, and safety considerations
  • Ensuring identification aligns with your gender identity on travel documents and visas
  • Traveling with hormones, prosthetics, and other medical necessities
  • Navigating border crossings by air, sea, and land

“Travel is a form of freedom, and for trans and gender diverse travelers, it’s also an act of visibility and courage. This guide supports those journeys, but the work doesn’t end here. More tools, policies, education and industry-wide support are needed so that, one day, every traveler can move through the world safely as their most authentic self without fear and trepidation,” Gabrielle Claiborne (she/her), GTAG Chair & CEO of Transformation Journeys Worldwide.

“Travel is one of the most powerful ways to connect with the world and with one another — and everyone deserves the opportunity to do so safely, confidently, and authentically,” said Christine Gallagher (she/her), Vice President of Marketing at Away. “At Away, we believe that the more we travel, the better we all become. That’s why we’re proud to support the IGLTA Foundation and GTAG on this important initiative, which provides a meaningful resource for trans and gender diverse travelers so they can explore the world with belonging and peace of mind.”

“IGLTA’s Trans & Gender Diverse Travel Guide provides a critical and timely resource to support the dignity, freedom, and safety of trans and gender diverse people who deserve the same joy of travel and exploration available to any traveler,” said Bryan Simmons (he/him), Vice President for Global Communications at the Arcus Foundation
