IGLTA Internship Opportunities

IGLTA and the IGLTA Foundation both offer Internship opportunities during both the Fall and Spring Terms as well as the Summer. The exact dates may change due to scheduling conflicts, actual school terms, graduation, etc, but here are the general time frames:

Fall: The beginning of September to the beginning of the Christmas break

Spring: Mid-January to mid-May*

Summer: Mid-May to end of August

*The IGLTA Convention Internship is ONLY offered during this term and the end date is dependant upon the date of our Annual Global Convention.

    About the IGLTA Foundation
    The IGLTA Foundation (IGLTAF) was founded in 2012 to support the mission of the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association (IGLTA) and its members through education, research and leadership development. IGLTAF programs include: Emerging Destinations, to support LGBTQ+-owned businesses in countries lacking governmental support or where laws are challenging for LGBTQ+ people; David Martin Small Business Scholarships to assist LGBTQ+ small business owners in emerging destinations; and LGBTQ+ tourism reports produced in collaboration with organizations such as World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and European Travel Commission (ETC).

    IGLTA is the global leader in advancing LGBTQ+ travel and a proud Affiliate Member of UNWTO. IGLTA’s mission is to provide information and resources for LGBTQ+ travelers and expand LGBTQ+ tourism globally by demonstrating its significant social and economic impact. IGLTA membership includes LGBTQ+ and LGBTQ+-friendly accommodations, destinations, service providers, travel agents, tour operators, events and travel media in more than 80 countries. 

    Position Description
    The IGLTA Foundation is looking for a qualified individual for a temporary internship either at our headquarters office, or to work remotely. Either way, the position will be part of the headquarters team, which is responsible for coordinating all strategies and outreach to help support the three pillars of the Foundation: Education, Research & Leadership.

    This intern should be prepared to work in a casual but fast-paced and innovative team environment and will finish the internship having gained broad experience in various aspects of the non-profit tourism industry, with a focus on LGBTQ+ international travel and IGLTA Foundation objectives. Compensation for the position is based on a 20-hour week at $10 per hour. Work schedule of the 20 hours to be determined with candidate. 

     

    Responsibilities / Areas of development

    • Provide backup for Operations Manager & VP-Communications on Foundation-related projects
    • Assists Operations Manager with Exec Committee and Full-Board conference calls including note-taking
    • Review all fundraising aspects of the Board of Directors and IGLTAF Staff
    • Create tracking/monitoring system of all Fundraising efforts
    • Work with Operations Manager on development of annual global fundraiser, Voyage
    • Assist with Foundation-related social media and media coverage
    • Coordinate staff involvement in Emerging Destinations program
    • Work with VP-Finance for Foundation budget-related projects
    • Manage status of all Foundation PowerPoint presentations
    • Assist with research grants 

    Qualifications

    • Extremely organized and motivated
    • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
    • Interest in marketing, communications and event planning
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Has financial recordkeeping management experience (i.e. QuickBooks)
    • Has excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to work independently on a project in a small team environment
    • Is eager to meet and exceed objectives and take on more responsibilities
    • Possess a positive attitude with initiative, reliability and punctuality

    Position Description

This includes the staging of an Annual Global Convention. We’re looking for an intern who can participate in various stages of this development and execution. Compensation for the position is based upon a 40-hour work week, Monday-Friday, at $10 per hour.  (Preferred: Candidate able to travel to the Annual Global Convention) Intern term from Mid-January, to Mid-May, depending upon Convention dates.

    This intern should be prepared to work in a casual but fast-paced and innovative team environment and will finish the internship having gained broad experience in various aspects of the tourism industry, with a focus on LGBTQ+ international travel.

    • Maintain listings of global LGBTQ+ organizations, Pride events, community centers and special events and their contacts for website 
    • Assist with logging media coverage and research of media outlets
