Although we don't believe that a boycott will make the Sultan of Brunei rethink his actions, we are heartened to see the outpouring of support from our global tourism allies, who share in our shock and anger over this egregious violation of human rights. Brunei’s full implementation of Sharia law sends a clear reminder that we need to unite, speak up, and never cease in our efforts to push for global equality and safety for our LGBTQ+ family, as well as all marginalized communities.
What can you do to help? IGLTA recommends donations to Rainbow Railroad, an organization that helps LGBTQ+ people around the world who are living in fear due to government and police brutality to find new homes where they can live in freedom; or OutRight Action International, which fights for human rights for LGBTQ+ people everywhere.
