Haunters Against Hate was formed after some very hateful speech was made in the haunt community about the Orlando Pulse massacre. Paul Lanner, with the suggestions of haunt owners, created HAH to take something so negative and turn it into something positive. Over five years, what started with the sale of one t-shirt design at a few haunted attractions, has now become an official 501(c)3 corporation. With the sales of T-shirts, pins, patches, the Book of Haunters series, and special HAH nights at various haunts, Haunters Against Hate has raised over $35,000 for LGBTQ+ youth organizations across the United States, all from sales of HAH merchandise.
In 2021, Haunters Against Hate had the first event/convention that combined the horror, haunt, and LGBTQ communities together for an event that offered a space where everyone could feel welcomed. Combining vendors, workshops, competitions, drag shows, and the HAH Awards, it was a convention unlike any other.
