Direct flights from Europe and the US to Botswana's legendary Okavango Delta are now possible, thanks to a pioneering partnership between the brand-new Fly Okavango airline and New World Safaris.
Operating from Fort Lauderdale's Hollywood International Airport in the US and from London's Stansted International Airport in the UK, both of which enjoy connecting flights from across the Americas and Europe, Fly Okavango is the newest brand in luxury air travel. Its Boeing 767-300ER has been retrofitted to offer 96 lie-flat seats and First Class service all the way to Maun International Airport - gateway to the Okavango Delta.
The plane has been named the Kori Bustard, in honour of Africa's heaviest flying bird, and does away with the need for queues, international transfers and contact with huge crowds of people, affording discerning travellers the perfect way to fly straight to one of Africa's most legendary safari destinations.
Fly Okavango has also partnered with world-renowned safari brands Belmond, &Beyond and Wilderness Safaris to offer a 12-night itinerary that includes a sensational stay in at least two, and generally three outstanding luxury lodges in vastly different Delta environments.
All inter-lodge transfers and flights are included in the package which is designed to immerse travellers into the breathtaking landscapes of this unique World Heritage Site where the Okavango River empties its waters into the vast and arid Kalahari Basin, forming one of the most celebrated wetlands in the world.
With some of the highest concentrations of wildlife species in Africa, the Okavango Delta tops the bucket list of African safari destinations. Its lush, verdant waterways and thousands of islands are home to some of the biggest herds of elephant and buffalo on the continent as well as the hunting ground of iconic predators like lion, leopard and cheetah.
The Okavango is also one of the last remaining strongholds of the critically endangered painted wolf (African wild dog) and is a birdwatchers' dream come true, with more than 400 recorded species of both endemic and summer migrant birds.
As well as morning and afternoon/evening game drives and boat based game viewing (depending on the season in some areas of the Okavango), activities also include hot air ballooning over the jaw-dropping Delta, mokoro excursions, walking safaris, tiger fishing (again, in season) and spa treatments.
Enjoy the thrill of having a picnic under tall riparian shade trees as you watch herds of elephants come down to drink... Experience fine dining and superlative cuisine under a canopy of African stars...
Explore the winding channels in a mokoro (dug-out canoe) and get up close and personal to incredible wildlife. Or just sit back next to a sparkling swimming pool and take in the phenomenal views... This is what the Okavango is all about, where the spirit of wild Africa comes to the fore.
This is a safe safari too. Botswana has one of the lowest incidences of COVID-19 in the world and has instituted strict health and safety protocols. The Kori Bustard and all of the accommodation at each of the partner lodges are cleaned in accordance with strict CDC/EPA guidelines.
The plane itself allows for maximum distancing with its low number of seats and all of the lodges have a maximum of 12 well-spaced, private guest suites. Dining takes place outdoors and all game activities are private.
