IGLTA Annual Global Convention in Milan, 6-9 May, 2020 Learn More
Strategically situated in the heart of Europe, Germany might easily be considered the center of gay Europe. Germany boasts well-organized and lively LGBT communities that are widely spread across the country. Numerous gay events take place throughout the year, including the annual pride parades, in Germany known as Christopher Street Day Parades, which are organized in every major city, celebrating the gay and lesbian movement. Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich in particular have an open and vibrant gay and lesbian scene. Berlin’s gay-friendly neighborhoods Schöneberg, Kreuzberg, Prenzlauer Berg and Friedrichshain have become trendy and hip not only with gays and lesbians but with artists, young and creative people. Cologne is home to excellent museums, a hopping arts scene, and a warm and sexy populace. Every year thousands of visitors fill Cologne’s streets during the two-week Pride festival. Germany’s financial capital Frankfurt offers a small but very multicultural LGBT scene. The epicenter of Frankfurt’s gay scene is the so-called Bermuda Triangle. Hamburg is famous for its Christopher Street Day and leather convention. The quarter of St Georg with its many cafes and bars is the gay hotspot in Hamburg. Munich’s LGBT scene is very active and the event calendar stretches from a Rose Monday gay ball until the Gay Sunday during Oktoberfest.
