International Art Tour Berlin, Munich & Switzerland: The First Modern Homosexuals c.1900

Available 15 May, 2013 - 25 May, 2013

by Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art
North America > United States > New York

Tour will be led by Jonathan David Katz, preeminent historian of gay art and culture, and Andre Dombrowski, specialist in the art and culture of central Europe of the late 19th and early 20th Century, focusing on the development of early gay culture in Berlin, Munich and Locarno, Switzerland. Tour is organized by Anna Canepa, a well-established leader in high-quality museum travel tours. Tour travels to the very first homosexual sites in the world; beginning in Berlin, the gay capital of Europe and capital of art and culture, then discover Munich’s early gay heritage, taking a side trip to Neuschwanstein, the fairy tale castle built by the region’s most celebrated homosexual, its ruler Ludwig II. We will explore in detail the utopian dreams of early gay artists such as Hans von Marées and will secure a private tour of Elisar von Kupffer's astounding murals. Tour ends in Locarno, Switzerland, the most Italian region of that alpine country. Full Itinerary available on website.
