The Region of Madrid is the capital of LGBT tourism in Spain, counting with a community of over half a million of LGTB people. Each year, the region welcomes over 3 million visitors who are attracted by offers that specifically cater to gay & lesbian audiences. The Calle de Fuencarral and the Chueca district have become symbols of Madrid’s modernity and the heart of its so-called “gay quarter”, where rainbow flags welcome visitors. The region has over 500 businesses, including hotels, galleries, bars, restaurants, night clubs, coffee shops, bookstores, beauty salons, gyms, and a wide variety of shops that cater to the LGBT community. In addition, the hotel accommodation and restaurant services boast an excellent price/quality ratio. The region also hosts more than 350 recreational, cultural and sports events each year with this group in mind: the Lesbian, Gay and Transgender Film Festival of Madrid [LesGaiCineMad], the Recreational-Cultural Festival of Gays and Lesbians, Infinita, and the International Festival of LGBT Culture, Muestráte, Visible, to name a few. However, the largest celebration of the year for the gay community in our region is Madrid Pride, the first week in July. This event attracts over 2 million visitors, offering outdoor concerts and activities in the streets of the Chueca district that culminate in one of the world’s Best Gay Pride Parades.
